Indian Equities Rally for Sixth Consecutive Session, Sensex Gains Over 2,000 Points
The BSE Sensex surged by more than 2,000 points, closing at 79,310, while the NSE Nifty rose 2.4 percent, marking a sixth straight day of gains. Analysts attributed the lift to a combination of foreign inflows, commodity price moderation and a stabilising rupee.
On a bright trading day, the Sensex climbed 2,008.61 points to finish at 79,310.01, while the Nifty added 576 points, ending at 24,536.60, extending a six‑day winning streak that has energized market participants. The rally was led by information‑technology and banking stocks, which benefited from renewed optimism about earnings growth and a favorable foreign‑investor sentiment index that recorded a net inflow of several billion dollars.
Underlying the surge were several macroeconomic factors that converged to create a supportive environment. Commodity prices, particularly crude oil, retreated from recent peaks, easing input costs for energy‑intensive industries. At the same time, the rupee steadied at 94.46 per U.S. dollar, reducing currency risk for import‑dependent firms and encouraging foreign portfolio investors to increase exposure to Indian equities. Policy signals from the Reserve Bank of India, hinting at a measured approach to interest‑rate adjustments, also contributed to the market’s confidence.
The extended rally carries implications for both domestic and international stakeholders. Corporate boards may feel pressure to accelerate share buy‑back programmes or dividend declarations to sustain investor enthusiasm. Retail investors, buoyed by the upward trajectory, are likely to allocate a larger share of their portfolios to equities, potentially widening the market’s breadth. Conversely, market analysts caution that prolonged optimism could mask underlying vulnerabilities, such as global growth slowdown, which may surface if external shocks re‑emerge.
