Kerala authorities assure ample aravana supply for Sabarimala pilgrimage
The Tirumala Devaswom Board reassured the Kerala minister that sufficient aravana will be available for the upcoming Sabarimala pilgrimage season. The assurance seeks to quell pilgrim anxieties and maintain the smooth conduct of one of India's largest religious gatherings.

As the Sabarimala season approached, concerns surfaced among devotees about the availability of aravana, a traditional herbal preparation considered essential for the pilgrimage ritual. The Devaswom Board's president, K. Jayakumar, met with Kerala's Devaswoms Minister K. Muraleedharan to convey that logistical arrangements had been finalised, ensuring a steady flow of the preparation from Kerala's authorised manufacturers to the temple precincts. The minister publicly echoed this confidence, urging pilgrims to focus on spiritual preparation rather than supply worries.
The dialogue reflects broader challenges faced by religious institutions in managing massive influxes of worshippers while preserving ritual purity and public health. Past pilgrimages have witnessed sporadic shortages of aravana, leading to panic buying and the emergence of unregulated vendors. By coordinating with state agencies and private producers, the Board aims to standardise quality control, prevent counterfeit products, and streamline distribution channels across the state's transport network.
In the weeks ahead, the Board will deploy monitoring teams at key entry points to verify the authenticity of aravana batches and to address any logistical hiccups promptly. The proactive stance is expected to reinforce pilgrim confidence, sustain the pilgrimage's economic benefits for local communities, and set a precedent for other large‑scale religious events seeking to balance tradition with modern supply‑chain management.
