Chennai-based collective announces carnival to support indie filmmaking
A Chennai based collective will host a three day Creators Carnival from October 30 to November 1 to showcase independent films. The event will screen 35 movies and include discussions with filmmakers to support the regional indie film community.

The Chennai based collective of independent filmmakers has unveiled plans for a three day Creators Carnival scheduled for October 30, 31 and November 1. The event is designed to provide a platform for emerging talent to showcase their work, connect with audiences and engage in dialogue with peers and industry veterans. Organisers say the carnival will help bridge the gap between creative ambition and market exposure for films that often struggle to find distribution channels. The organizers expect around 500 attendees, including students, critics and potential investors, to attend the screenings and panel sessions.
The carnival will feature 35 films spanning documentary, fiction and experimental genres, each selected by a curatorial committee that includes veteran directors and film scholars. In addition to screenings, the programme includes Q&A sessions, workshops on low budget production techniques and round table discussions on topics such as digital distribution, audience development and funding models. Participants will have the chance to receive feedback directly from established creators, promoting a collaborative environment that encourages skill sharing and networking. The schedule also allocates time for networking mixers where filmmakers can meet potential collaborators and sponsors.
The Creators Carnival arrives at a time when independent cinema in South India is seeking greater visibility and financial sustainability. By concentrating a diverse slate of films in one venue, the event aims to attract media attention, encourage local businesses to support the arts and inspire young creators to pursue filmmaking as a viable career. Observers will monitor audience turnout and the level of industry participation to assess whether the carnival can become an annual fixture that strengthens the regional indie film ecosystem.
