KTR Calls on Youth to Embrace Artificial Intelligence Without Fear
Telangana’s IT minister urged students and startups to view AI as an opportunity for growth rather than a threat to jobs. He outlined government programmes aimed at fostering research, funding and skill development in the field.
During a technology forum in Hyderabad on October 22, K. T. Rama Rao, the minister for IT and Industries in Telangana, addressed a gathering of university students and startup founders, urging them to view artificial intelligence as a tool for empowerment rather than a threat to employment. He highlighted recent government initiatives that provide funding for AI research labs, incubators, and skill‑development programmes aimed at integrating the technology into the state’s burgeoning digital economy.
The appeal comes at a time when India grapples with a widening skills gap, as employers report difficulty in finding candidates proficient in machine‑learning algorithms and data‑analytics. Critics caution that rapid AI adoption without robust regulatory frameworks could exacerbate existing inequalities, prompting calls for comprehensive curricula that balance technical proficiency with ethical considerations. KTR acknowledged these concerns, pledging to collaborate with academic institutions to embed responsible AI principles into certification courses and to monitor the impact of automation on vulnerable labour segments.
If the state’s AI strategy gains traction, Telangana could emerge as a regional hub for intelligent‑system development, attracting foreign investment and creating high‑value jobs for its youthful population. However, the transition may also displace workers in traditional sectors, necessitating targeted reskilling programmes to mitigate social disruption. Over the next year, the effectiveness of these measures will likely shape policy debates across other Indian states, influencing how the nation navigates the broader digital transformation.
