PepsiCo India inaugurated a sprawling food‑processing complex in Assam, investing Rs 778 crore to produce snacks, beverages and ready‑to‑eat meals for the domestic market. The plant’s launch has prompted the state government to negotiate new tax incentives, while existing food processors argue that the scale of PepsiCo’s operation could marginalise smaller firms reliant on regional grain supplies. Local farmers anticipate higher demand for potatoes and wheat, yet analysts warn that price volatility may arise if the company’s procurement contracts dominate the market, potentially squeezing out independent growers.
